SKILIFT SCHILT
Location : Untere Fronalp 2, 8753 Mollis
In Glarnerland, you can ski endlessly and let off steam in a different ski area every day. You can either travel a few minutes or head straight from the studio to the Schilt ski lift. This small and ecological ski area at the foot of the Fronalpstock has just two T-bar lifts, but still offers varied pistes, powder snow and opportunities for ski tours, and snowboarders will also find their "snow happiness" here. If you are lucky, you can ski almost to the studio door if there is enough snow. There is a ski bus from the village or you can travel here in your own car (snow chains recommended), parking spaces are available.
SLEDGING WEISSENBERGE
Location: Alte Strasse 7, 8766 Matt
The Weissenberge toboggan run in Glarus Süd is our favorite. The Matt Weissenberge cable car takes you directly to the sledging fun. The toboggan run has it all and guarantees a racy descent. It's best to take the cable car up, enjoy a cheese fondue with schnapps in the mountain inn and then tackle the rather steep slope.
Sledging is also great at the Kerenzerberg cable car, not far from the studio. You can go sledging here in winter and ride down on a scooter in summer.
You can find lots more tobogganing ideas on the Glarnerland Tourism website.
WINTER HIKING NIDERURNERTÄLI
Location: Hädilochstrasse 48, Niederurnen
Glarnerland also offers many wonderful outdoor alternatives for non-skiers, alpine skiers and tobogganists in winter. Snowshoeing or winter hiking allow you to enjoy nature to the full, even in the cold season. A recommended tour to start with is the Niederunertäli Trail, which starts not far from the studio at the valley station of the Niederurnen-Morgenholz cable car. The extended version of the trail offers a detour to Vorder Mälchterli.
You can find more tours and winter sports options on Outdoor Glarnerland.
AMDEN-ARVENBÜHL SKI RESORT
The clearly laid out and cozy Amden-Arvenbuel ski area is beautifully situated on the southern slope above Lake Walen and is ideal for beginners.
HEIDILAND-FLUMSERBERG SKI RESORT
The Flumserberg ski area can be reached by car in under 20 minutes and offers a wide range of winter sports options.
SKITOUR SCHILT
Location: Untere Fronalp 10, Alp Fronalp, 8753 Mollis
The Glarus Alps are a paradise for ski tourers. The Schilt is probably the classic in Glarus North, ideally starting at the Naturfreundehaus Fronalp, where you can enjoy a cold beer and a delicious rösti after the tour. View included.
On this interactive map you will find a large selection of other possible tours and descents in Glarnerland. You can also plan your tours with Outdoor Glarnerland.
Don't forget to take all the usual precautions and find out about the snow and weather conditions in advance.
