HIKE KLÖNTALERSEE

Route: Circular hike Klöntalersee
Hiking duration: approx. 1-2h
Season: Spring / summer / fall
Klöntal is home to probably the most beautiful mountain lake in the region. It is easily accessible by train & bus or with your own means of transportation. From the "Klöntal Campingplatz" parking lot or the "Rhodannenberg" bus stop, the hiking trail leads along the left side of the lake to the "Klöntal Plätz" bus stop, from where you can take the bus back along the right side of the lake to the parking lot or Glarus train station. There are many lovely barbecue and bathing spots along the hiking route.
At the far end of the lake, directly at the Plätz stop, and at the beginning of the lake near the dam wall, there is a restaurant serving Swiss food.
The Schwammhöhe Schwammhöhe mountain inn with its unique view of the lake is located in a slightly elevated position. This photo was taken here.
In winter, the Klöntalersee may freeze over. Then ice skaters from near and far flock to the valley. The ice from Lake Klöntal was mined in the 19th century and transported as far as Holland for the catering trade.
